Lucid Letter Exclusive - Interview with world record holders!
Lucid has broken another record! This time, it wasn't for speed, range, or battery technology. Instead, Lucid Air crossed the most countries on a single charge. A team of three men—Umit Sabanci, Ian Joynson, and Mikhail (Misha) Nahorny—set out to make history and raise money for an important cause. They chose to support Guys Cancer Charity, which Umit had previously raised funds for. When asked why they picked this charity, Misha said, "We wanted to help many people. Saint Thomas is well-known here, and this charity in the UK supports cancer patients and survivors.”
Following their remarkable and record-setting drive, I recently had the pleasure of sitting down for an interview with Misha Nahorny. We discussed their ambitious project during our conversation, exploring the motivations that fueled their determination and drive. Misha shared insightful anecdotes and personal reflections
It all began in January when three friends, including Umit Sabanci, known for breaking world records, came up with an exciting idea. They wanted to travel through most countries on a single electric charge. To match the current record, they needed to go through 8 countries and to break it, they needed 9. They contacted Lucid Motors, a company known for making electric cars with the longest range, and Lucid agreed to help. Over six months, they planned their routes, calculated elevation changes for roads hundreds of miles away, met with the Lucid team, and raised money for their charity.
After meeting with the Lucid Motors team in the Netherlands, it became clear that this collaboration was a perfect match. The team at Lucid Motors was not only enthusiastic about the ambitious, record-setting journey but also incredibly supportive of the endeavor. Demonstrating their commitment, Lucid Motors generously agreed to lend one of their state-of-the-art vehicles for this thrilling adventure. In addition to providing the car, Lucid Motors went above and beyond by offering comprehensive support throughout.
During their trip, they left the Netherlands and drove the Lucid Air through 9 countries, covering over 567 miles. Misha mentioned that while stopping for coffee, they found out their route across the Alps into was closed. They decided to take the risk on an alternative and higher elevation route. Before reaching the top, the battery dropped to 4-5%, but thanks to regeneration, it recharged to over 10% by the time they entered Italy. The team was thrilled when they finally made it to Italy and started celebrating their record-breaking accomplishment. With over 10% battery left, the team decided to break the distance record as well by driving to Como, 110 kilometers away. The team reached the charger in Como with barely any battery left. Now the distance record was broken too!
It was awesome talking to the team and hearing their story. If you want to help them, please click the link below and consider donating! I can’t wait to see what record they break next. I have a feeling this team isn’t done yet.
